Knowledge Is Power

JordanPerson-18Over the past year I have worked on patients from all over the globe including visitors from just about every state in the United States, as well as Australia, Guam, Canada, and all over the UK just to name a few. Each patient seemingly shares the same common interests: cannabis and wellness.  People that don’t usually receive massage therapy now want to receive it and want to discover the healing properties of cannabis for themselves. The fear factor normally met by patients wanting to experience something new for some reason fades away when cannabis is involved.  Patients inquisitive nature takes over their fears and they become more open to the possibility of a pain free and narcotic free life with the use of cannabis infused topical treatments.

For many, their first massage ever is a cannabis infused one and the first question is always the same, “will I get high?” My answer is always the same, “no, that is not the point of this type of bodywork, I started this company with the goal of educating people that it’s not always about getting high.”  If the products did cause a psychoactive response, I could not make it through a normal work day, I would be far too intoxicated to perform bodywork.  This answer generally leads to their next question, “do I need to worry about failing a drug test?” To date, no one has failed a drug test from the use of topical transmission of cannabis. The infused products are staying in the dermal level and are not entering the bloodstream.  This opens cannabis infused massage therapy to patients that can not use any other form of cannabis but still desire its therapeutic health benefits.

Patients of all kinds have contacted me in hopes that they will have some type of relief. I have treated numerous ages and conditions from MS in a 42 year old and Neuropathy in a 90 year old to Cancer in a 4 year old and PTSD in many ages. The benefits for each patient are seen repeatedly with each new diagnosis I get to work with.  Each patient notes a deeper sense of relaxation then typically felt after a massage. A reduction of pain, swelling and inflammation is noticed on chronic areas of discomfort as well as cutting healing time in half on numerous types of acute injuries. Increased blood flow to constricted and congested areas of discomfort allow for deeper bodywork to take place without needing to excessively perform deep tissue massage. The products work while I am working preventing hand and wrist pain as well as joint swelling. The benefits are many and the side effects are non-existent unlike most topical pain relief treatments found at your local pharmacy.

I look forward to the coming year and the continued advances of the growing field of cannabis infused massage therapy. Knowledge is power and the more science that comes out to support the theories behind these new techniques the better.  Primal Therapeutics hopes you will join our pursuit in continuing to spread the word that we no longer have to live in an over medicated society. We can go back to plant medicine and living holistically, using cannabis infused massage therapy as treatment instead of pharmaceuticals and chemical laden products.

Worry Free Winter Tonic

Last winter, I spent the majority of it sniffling, sneezing, coughing and wheezing. It was awful. I thoroughly examined my diet in attempts to replenish any deficiencies. I went from being gluten free to eating bread again. I went over all of my allergens again and again hoping I may have missed something. My breathing continued to worsen no matter what I tried to do for myself. The only thing that seemed to make me better was the weather changing back to a warmer more manageable temperature and the rescue inhaler prescribed to me by an Emergency Room Physician.  After my lungs finally filled with enough fluid to cause my asthma from childhood to return to me in a full exacerbation I ended up staying in the hospital for 2 days.

I want this winter season to be different. I want to be well. I began researching holistic treatment for the prevention and treatment of colds and flu. I realized that all last winter whenever I was sick I would always take some form of homeopathic treatment that contained Elderberries. Reaching this sativa hybrid Sour Diesel induced epiphany made me want to understand those little berries a whole lot better. I wondered what other herbs could assist Elderberries in taking it to the next level of health. Which led me to compose the following list of herbs I am hoping will take me to a higher road of health.

  • Elderberry is used for its antioxidant activity, to boost the immune system, for coughs, colds, flu, bacterial and viral infections even and tonsillitis. It has been beneficial for asthma patients as well. The enhancement of the immune system is unsurpassed.
  • Hibiscus has also been used traditionally to treat coughing and has been used for its antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. It supports respiratory health including the throat.
  • Orange Peel is loaded with natural histamine suppressing compounds making it wonderful for allergy prone individuals like myself. It can help expel congestion and cleanse the lungs.
  • Rose Hips are jam packed with Vitamin C. They are an excellent immune system supporter and are also rich in Vitamin A helping fight off infections.
  • Ginger is used for upper respiratory tract infections, cough, and bronchitis. It is an antibacterial, antiviral,  and rich antioxidant.
  • Cinnamon naturally warms the body and clears mucous and congestion caused by colds, flu and allergies.
  • Honey(local, raw and organic) not only is it naturally an anti-bacterial, using a honey that is local it can dramatically reduce allergy symptoms.

I went to my local herb store and purchased all of the ingredients I researched to combine them all into one mega healthy concoction. Each item I used is organic and locally sourced and I urge you to always do the same when possible. I present you with the elixir I am hoping keeps me healthy all winter long. I call it the “Worry Free Winter Tonic”.

  • 1 cup dried elderberries
  • 1/2 cup dried hibiscus
  • 1/2  cup orange peel
  • 1/4 cup rose hips
  • 2 TBS fresh grated ginger
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 5 cups water
  • 2 cups local raw honey

Step 1: Place all ingredients except for the honey in a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil and simmer for 30 minutes.

Step 2: Strain the mixture.  Place a piece of cheese cloth inside a fine mesh strainer over a large pot.

Step 3: Squeeze the mixture inside the cheesecloth as much as possible to remove all the tonic you possibly can (my hands were turned a temporary shade of purple I squeezed so hard)

Step 4: Add the honey to the pot of juice and infuse the honey into juice over low heat, stirring until mixed well.

Step 5: Remove from heat and place syrup in a glass jar and refrigerate once cool for daily use. You may also can or freeze the syrup for later use.

It tastes great and is highly beneficial for you!

As a preventative:  Take 1 TBS per day for an adult and 1 TSP per day for a child.

When feeling sick: 1 TBS per hour for an adult, 1 TSP per hour for a child.

Keeping it Green: I wanted to get all of the possible nutrients out of this, so I then made a batch of tea by dropping the filled cheesecloth into a pot of boiling water. There was still plenty of flavor left to make a tasty pot of tea.

*Do not give honey to children under age 1. You can substitute another natural sweetener like maple syrup instead of using honey.

A special thank you to all Veterans

We must remember that our freedom is not free. We are the home of the free because of the brave. Thank you to all those currently serving and to all those that have served our country to protect our freedoms.

Primal Therapeutics was honored to provide chair massages to local Veterans at the Operation Grow 4 Vets November event.  It was truly an unforgettable day.  I massaged men with shrapnel still inside them, a man with a broken back from when a Humvee rolled over him, men who had been victims of ambush, road side bombings and men waiting for the disability they so severely need from the VA. It was a very humbling experience for me.

Operation Grow4Vets has an incredible mission, vision and purpose and Primal Therapeutics looks forward to participating at all of their future events.

“OUR MISSION: The mission of Operation Grow4Vets is to help reduce the staggering number of Veterans who die each day from suicide and prescription drug overdose. We provide Veterans with the knowledge and resources necessary to obtain or grow their own marijuana for treatment of their medical conditions.

OUR VISION: To raise awareness by enlisting the public’s aid and support in ensuring that all injured and wounded Veterans receive the respect and dignity of life that they deserve.

OUR PURPOSE: To provide Veterans with unique products, programs and services designed to assist them in living with injuries sustained while protecting our freedom. Operation Grow4Vets is a national, nonpartisan organization headquartered in Colorado.

Denver, it’s time for a change!

In the city of Denver we have a pressing issue that most city officials are trying to ignore. With little to no adverse effects, changing the hours of operation would behoove all local dispensary owners. Everyday business owners are starting to wake up to the realization what an impact extending their hours could have. Also noting that in all the surrounding cities to Denver, dispensary hours are already extended later. Some cities have shops closing at 10pm and even midnight. So why is Denver so behind? It certainly would seem that as the most progressive city in the country its laws and regulations would match its reputation, but that is not the case.

A local consultant/lobbyist Kevin Mahmalji has been working on a grass roots style campaign to change the hours of operation for the last 4 months. He made good head way last week when the Denver Post published his letter to the editor.

“It’s an unjust policy that forces marijuana businesses and consumers to choose between a very limited legal market or an easily accessible black-market option that offers delivery. When the benefits are so great and there is no harm done to existing businesses or neighborhoods, it makes perfect sense to support a change in the hours of operation.”
-Kevin Mahmalji
If you are a local business or local resident and you feel the hours should be changed please stop in one of the participating dispensaries and sign a letter to your council person today!

Love thy feet

We walk around on them all day every day and never give them the attention they deserve. Our feet take a beating daily and never complain or ask much of us in return. We wear heels that are too high and hiking boots on rough terrain for too many miles. We never think twice about pinching our toes into a pair of not so comfortable shoes to sacrifice fashion for comfort. Giving your feet the care they deserve can not only extend the happiness of your digits but it can improve your health as well.

Health Benefits of Foot Massage

  • lowers blood pressure
  • can reduce edema (swelling) in pregnant women
  • certain reflexology points can relieve nausea
  • improves circulation
  • reduction and prevention of foot and ankle injuries
  • reduces the effects of depression and anxiety
  • assists with headaches and migraines
  • helps flat feet with flexibility
  • alleviates pain and discomfort of plantar fasciitis
  • helps reduce symptoms of menopause and PMS
  • stress reduction

Take time out every day to remember how important you are from head to toe. True beauty is a result of whole body wellness.

Education on Cannabis Massage in Las Vegas

Live from Las Vegas!

Nevada Medical Marijuana Regulation Priorities…Live from Las Vegas

I was recently asked by a Nevada State Senator to come and give a presentation on Cannabis Infused Massage Therapy. It was my first time in Las Vegas and an incredible experience. Senator Segerblom and all of the distinguished members of the subcommittee were full of great questions regarding the regulations surrounding cannabis massage.

Senator Segerblom and I after my presentation

Nevada Senator Segerblom and Jordan Person, marijuana massage therapist and nurse

The new questions brought to light were eye opening regarding what regulations will be necessary in the future of cannabis infused massage therapy. Will the therapist require a new type of license? Will patients be mandated to hold a “red card” in order to receive services? Did the state boards of massage therapy need to provide permission for therapists to provide services? All of these questions and more were enough to spark my interest to continue the pursuit of the answers upon my return to Colorado.

I received a telephone call from a Las Vegas reporter one week after giving my presentation. They wanted to do a story on the businesses that are a result of the booming cannabis industry. Although my reasons for being there were strictly educational, it was an honor to be part of a news story. This is a link to the story.

The following is a link to an excellent blog regarding all the topics covered that day.

Narcotics need tougher regulations

It’s high time narcotics received tougher regulations!

An article in USA Today sparked my interest today. They are finally deciding in October how they will reclassify drugs like hydrocodone. This reclassification would include only allowing doctors to refill these life threatening drugs and no longer allowing their nurses and physicians assistants to call these prescriptions in. The new ruling will mandate doctors to write their prescriptions in 30-day increments that can only be filled sequentially. Cutting down the risk for abuse greatly.

I am originally from Florida the opiate capitol of the US and I sadly not only witnessed, but also myself fell victim to the over prescribed society that this nation has become. I saw too many friends loose everything they had, or their lives. I would have lost mine had I not moved to Colorado and gotten off every prescription drug they had me on and turned solely to Cannabis. There is not a doubt in my mind that if I would have not been shown a holistic approach to my own health care I would not be writing this right now. When I was sick and they could not find what was wrong with me, my symptoms only provoked more tests and the results only provoked more prescription pills and I only continued to become more ill.  Not a day goes by that I don’t think about how toxic I became and how toxic our whole country has become.

Prescription drugs are the #1 cause of death in the United States. They cause over 1 million annual hospital visits. According to the CDC  just under 17,000 deaths specific to opiate analgesics such as Lortab or Vicodin occurred in 2011. Prescription drugs are the answer to most questions you ask your physician. Our country is a despairing place that it has become easier to write a prescription and mask a symptom instead of looking for the cause and treating the root of the problem.

How many more people will die in this epidemic our country is facing?

Cannabis on the other hand has never and will never cause an overdose or death. Cannabis could effectively treat the withdrawal symptoms opiates cause due to its multifaceted capabilities.   The anti-anxiety and analgesic properties in cannabis are unsurpassed and chemical free which would allow an addict to come off the prescription drugs and not suffer the intense effects of detox.

Lets take it back to basics!

Cannabis, Cancer and Alkalinity

Cannabis, Cancer and Alkalinity

Evidence has shown that high doses of the cannabinoid THC can destroy cancer cells. It’s not that THC causes cancer cells to ravenously and indiscriminately destroy themselves. Rather, by binding to certain cell-surface receptors, THC activates a cell signaling pathway that leads to cell death.

In 1976 President Gerald Ford put an end to all public cannabis research and granted exclusive research rights to major pharmaceutical companies, who set out to develop synthetic forms of THC that would deliver all the medical benefits without the “high.” These synthetic lab made derivatives of cannabis have been used since the 1980’s to relieve the side effects of cancer drugs.

Thanks to Rick Simpson publishing his findings after treating his own skin cancer, the use of cannabis oil for treating cancer finally began receiving the media attention it deserved.

The regimen that has been used to fight numerous types of cancer is to ingest pure cannabis oil made via a medical grade alcohol extraction at a rate of 1 gram per day and to ingest 60 grams in a 90 day period for the full effectiveness of the medicine. There are numerous blogs, YouTube videos and websites dedicated to teaching patients and their families how to make this life saving oil at home. Patients have used this cannabis oil in conjunction with an alkaline diet to reduce their tumor size in not only skin cancer but numerous other types of cancer as well.

Since the 1930’s we have been adjusting our pH balance as means of cancer treatment. The principles of pH therapy are very simple.  The metabolism of cancer cells has a very narrow pH tolerance for cellular proliferation (mitosis), which is between 6.5 and 7.5.  As such, if you can interfere with cancer cell metabolism by either lowering or raising the internal cancer cell pH, you can theoretically stop cancer progression. There is general agreement amongst natural healers and medical professionals alike, that changing a cancer patient’s diet is extremely helpful when someone is confronted with a cancer diagnosis.

Cannabis and the treatment of Crohn’s Disease

Cannabis and Crohn’s Disease

Crohn’s is an Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) which causes inflammation to the lining and wall of the large and/or small intestine. Symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, rectal bleeding, weight loss, and fever. Severe cases can lead to removal of affected bowel segments. Recently Crohn’s has received new attention in the media for the capabilities of using cannabis as a treatment for the disease.

The cannabinoids in marijuana interact with CB receptors in the colon, intestines, brain and nervous system in several ways that help Crohn’s patients.

  • Epithelial Permeability – THC has a protective effect; cannabinoids can enhance wound closure in the colon.
  • Leukocyte recruitment – Leukocytes (white blood cells) are involved in the defense of an organism and protect it from disease by promoting or inhibiting inflammatory responses.
  • Brain – Cannabinoid receptors in the brain provide reduced pain sensation, relief of nausea and feelings of “unpleasantness.”
  • Enteric Nervous System – Cannabinoid receptors control secretion and motility (the over-activity of the intestinal tract). THC has been found to relieve motility and inhibit secretion associated with inflammation of the gut providing relief from diarrhea.

Continuing research is key to providing all patients with the most effective therapy with the least amount of side effects. Cannabis is a gentle holistic approach to treatment as opposed to the steroid and immune suppressors often prescribed that are known to cause many additional complications and contribute to the debilitating effects of Crohn’s disease.
